Impulse was written for world premiere at the Selmer Paris Saxophones Concert in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, as part of the World Saxophone Congress in December 2023. Directed by the composer, Impulse featured an incredible array of Selmer Artists, including Asya Fatayeva, Alain Crepin, Barry Cockroft, Branford Marsalis, Christian Wirth, Claude Delangle, Jerome Laran, Philippe Geiss, Rob Buckland & Vincent David... apologies to the sixty amazing saxophonists not listed here!
The piece has a high-energy unrelenting drum and bass-inspired drive, interspersed with two sudden moments of quiet reflection. Special thanks to Selmer Paris Saxophones & Florent Milhaud for commissioning and funding Impulse.
