These twelve etudes were written as solo pieces and not just for study. They each cover a particular aspect of saxophone technique or a basic element of music and can be played on any saxophone. They can be performed by any saxophonist who has an interest in saxophone technique, both traditional and contemporary, and the repertoire for the solo saxophone.
From his beginnings with the legendary Loose Tubes, through his worldwide collaborations, to his searching solo projects, Julian Argüelles has always spoken with a unique voice and is hugely influential to a new generation of British & European jazz musicians. His compositions have been described as supremely lyrical, with beautiful melodies whilst staying cliché free. His recordings, as a leader, compositions and arrangements have earned him highest accolades internationally with wide critical acclaim and awards. He continues to be amongst the most in-demand musicians, composers, arrangers and educators. Julian was awarded an Honorary Fellowship for RBC (Royal Birmingham Conservatoire) for services to music in 2017 and is currently Professor of Jazz Saxophone at the KUG Jazz Institute, Graz, Austria.
