Michael Reichenbach playing 'Cloudy Horizons'
1. Reflection
2. Breaktime
3. A Day Out
4. Cloudy Horizons
5. Polly's Variations
6. Rondo
Each piece addresses one or two musical or technical aspects and has individual notes to aid learning. This book attempts to break down some of these ideas into approachable and playable pieces.
The mandolin is primarily a melodic instrument. However it also has harmonic capabilities. There are many techniques and musical styles of writing that give the mandolin more depth. However, in order to make the mandolin a successful solo instrument it’s important to master the basic techniques in both the left and right hands. When the foundation is laid it will then be easier to approach the more advanced techniques.
'Six Episodes' is the first of four books in Stephens' 'Six' series for solo mandolin. Following this is Six Excursions, Six Adventures and finally Six Challenges, with the books progressing in difficulty throughout, from beginner plus to intermediate plus.
