Including Greensleeves, Bobby Shaftoe, London’s Burning, Jingle Bells, Vieni sul Mar, English Country Gardens, Rakes of Mallow, Coventry Carol, Dark Eyes, Simple Gifts, Sally Gardens, The Ash Grove, Drunken Sailor, Grandfather’s Clock and many more.
This book is an attractive collection of tunes suitable for players from the very early stages of learning to play and read, through to approximately grade 1 to 2 level. It can be used alongside a tutor book as supplementary material or simply as a fulfilling book to work through in order to learn to play and read more fluently. The book has been carefully compiled in order to introduce new rhythmic ideas in an orderly fashion throughout the book.
All the tunes in this book have chord symbols allowing a teacher or another student to play along on guitar or mandolin or another instrument. Several of the tunes are Canons (or rounds) and can be played as a duet. Other tunes have been “paired up” and although they are successful tunes on their own, they can be played together as a satisfying duet. This extra feature allows a student to develop a good rhythmic sense and ability to play in ensemble whilst also enjoying playing the tunes on their own. It also allows for the book to be used in group teaching situations.
