- Polcha Variata = 3'00"
- Arrabbiosa = 3'15"
- Piccolina = 2'45"
- Il Bacio = 4'00"
Three of these four pieces by Benedetto Persichini, an Italian mandolin player and composer around the turn of the 20th Century, have been recorded by the Editor; Alison Stephens. Polcha Variata is on the CD “Music from the Novels by Louis de Bernieres” (CHAN 9780); and Arrabbiosa and Piccolina are on the CD “Con Espressione” also available from Astute Music. Il Bacio is a recent Persichini discovery by the Editor during her research on the composer.
Persichini's music was often designed to show off one's technical ability on the mandolin as the instrument was enjoyed in the social entertainment of the era. The music is light-hearted and often jocular and should be played with a sense of interpretational freedom, panache and stylistic flair.
