Furious is a powerful, high-energy 12-minute original work for fanfare orchestra by Andy Scott. Dramatic and celebratory, it opens with bold brass statements, features exciting groove-driven sections, and includes a beautiful, lyrical soprano saxophone solo in the final movement. Written as a tribute to the late saxophonist Erik-Jan de With, this piece bursts with emotion and musical ideas – a standout addition to any fanfare orkest repertoire. Ideal for concerts and competitions in the Netherlands, Belgium, and beyond.

About the Piece
Furious was composed by Andy Scott in memory of his friend, the outstanding Dutch saxophonist Erik-Jan de With. The title reflects both the anger at his early passing and the explosive creativity that defined him – “a mind always exploding with musical ideas, like a raging wind.” The music celebrates Erik-Jan’s life through three distinct sections: a big, bold opening; a middle section evoking the smaller ensembles he loved; and a final movement that begins with a simple, folk-like melody on solo soprano saxophone – Andy’s musical portrait of his friend. The saxophone section then takes over the tune, representing the many saxophone ensembles Erik-Jan directed. Commissioned by the Fanfare Band of the Royal Marechaussee and conducted by Ido Kempenaar, the work received its world premiere on 13 November 2025 at Musis Sacrum in Arnhem, Netherlands. This is a substantial, rewarding addition to the contemporary fanfare orchestra repertoire – technically demanding yet highly engaging for both performers and audiences.
