Inspired by the magical glow of bioluminescent plankton, Sea of Stars paints a shimmering, atmospheric soundscape. Flashing arpeggios, rapid harmonics, and a variety of extended techniques bring this enchanting phenomenon to life with scintillating effect. Originally written in 2020 as a duo for lever harp and pedal harp (premiered online by Lauren Scott and Eleanor Turner), the piece was later arranged by the composer for harp quartet in 2024. It has quickly become a favourite with harp ensembles.

Level: Intermediate to Advanced (flexible for mixed lever and pedal harps)
Performance Notes (included with the set):
- Xylophonics, xylophonic harmonics, and tremolo glissando (demonstrated in the composer’s video: https://bit.ly/playseaofstars)
- Soundboard taps with the flat of the fingers (like gentle bongo slaps) — experiment with different spots for varied drum-like tones
- Harmonic sections act as sparkling backing figures and should support rather than overpower the main melody
- The piece is strictly rhythmic and needs to groove — precise ensemble timing is essential
