This is a relatively short but challenging concert piece. It has hints of impressionism, although it is rooted in Pakenham‘s characteristic style. The title, Fantasy refers to the form of the piece. It has an unpredictable, improvised feel, with different contrasting sections leading into one another and numerous time signature changes within sections.
There are some virtuosic passages in the quicker Scherzando section and Pakenham uses almost the whole range of the instrument, right up to the 17th fret of the e string. Phrase markings and slurs should be interpreted as tremolo.
