Let There Be Peace was inspired by the poem of the same name by Lemn Sissay. The music mirrors the form of the poem, three main sections, with saxophone cadenzas linking these sections. An overall yearning for tranquility is tested in the cadenzas, with an insistency and potential conflict, however calm prevails.
Written for euphonium and piano and premiered in Austria in 2012, the composer has arranged the work for saxophone and piano (both Eb & Bb versions) and gave the premiere of the Bb version with pianist Fenella Haworth-Smith at Sandbach Concert Series (Cheshire, UK) in May 2022.
