Rung is a short work with a diverse range of influences, from Argentine tango to French animation. Originally written for saxophone, cello and piano, it has been arranged for a variety of different groups, from 6 pianos to saxophone choir.
Performance Note
In the opening section to bar 49 the notation in the soprano saxophone parts, and bars 41-47 in the sopranino part relates to alternative fingerings. Each type of note head should be played with a different fingering, thus creating a variety of inflections on the same note.
In the section from bar 74 to bar 89 the sopranino saxophone player can choose either to play the notated solo or improvise his or her own. If desired this section can also be repeated to accommodate an extended sopranino solo and / or solos by the soprano saxophone players.
