ABRSM Saxophone Grade 7
Fujiko by Andy Scott is a beautifully scored, reflective and melancholy piece for Bb saxophone and piano.
It works equally well on soprano saxophone or tenor saxophone. The music begins by exploring the rich low register of the instrument before gradually rising through the full range, creating a strong sense of musical journey.
Originally composed for clarinet choir (featuring Eb clarinet), Fujiko was commissioned by the British Clarinet Ensemble. It was premiered at the 2005 International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest in Tokyo, Japan. The ensemble later recorded the piece on their CD Looping the Loop.
Fujiko has since become one of Andy Scott’s most popular works and is performed by saxophonists all over the world. It features on the highly regarded Westland CD recorded by American saxophonist Timothy McAllister with pianist Liz Ames.
This lyrical saxophone and piano work is an excellent choice for exams, recitals, and concerts.
