'Time Please' was written in 1996 for the SaxAssault CD 'Bang!' and features the tenor sax section (Iain Dixon, Mike Hall & John Helliwell). A bluesy shuffle with big band-like backing figures and stabs. The form is straight forward; four bar introduction, theme (second time with backing figures), and then into three tenor solos. After the return of the theme (once only, with backing figures) the coda is an opportunity for all three tenor saxes to let rip at the same time! 'Time Please' is about groove/feel and tenor sax solos.
Work on the groove/feel of 'Time Please' before adding tenor solos into the mix. Dynamics have been included in the sax backing figures behind each tenor sax solo, and the blowing section in the coda is 'open'. The overall saxophonic effect should be punchy and tight, with the tenor saxes digging in to the 'head'.
