Grow with ‘Four Progressive Pieces for Mandolin & Piano’ by Paul Mitchell-Davidson, published by Astute Music. This 14-page score (with 7-page part) offers beginner-plus to intermediate duets: Lotus Blossom, Street Scene, Valse Triste, and Falling Leaves. Lyrical and tonal with contemporary twists, it explores lute-like mandolin textures. Download as a PDF or order a printed score.
1. Lotus Blossom
2. Street Scene
3. Valse Triste
4. Falling Leaves
These four pieces, make progressive technical demands on the player.
The mandolin is strictly speaking a member of the lute family and as a composer I am interested in exploiting the lute like qualities of the instrument through the combination of open and stopped strings and other lute-like configurations. These pieces are mostly lyrical and tonal but the harmony is occasionally acerbic and most definitely contemporary.
