Mike Hall is a jazz saxophonist and educator. He began his musical career with the National Youth Jazz Orchestrawhich led to work with composer/pianist Michael Garrick with whom he toured Malaysia and made several CD recordings and Radio 3 broadcasts.
More recently Mike played a week at Ronnie Scott’s Clubwith the Echoes of Ellington Orchestra, a gala concert at the World Saxophone Congress in Slovenia and subsequent UK tour with Andy Scott’s Sax Assault and a series of dates with his own jazz quartet. He regularly freelances with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Halle Orchestras with guest conductors such as John Wilson. Mike was recently involved in a project involving the RLPO and the Wayne Shorter Quartet. Other projects have included his own jazz chamber group Crystal and music for jazz quartet and string orchestra. Mike has just recorded a CD with his duo partner, Dan Whieldon. As well as maintaining a busy performing schedule Mike heads Jazz Studies at the RNCM where he is tutor in jazz saxophone, teaches improvisation, theory, history and directs the RNCM Big Band and Jazz Collective. He is also a composer and consultant for the Associated Board, director of the Canford Jazz Summer School and runs a variety of other jazz improvisation courses at various locations around the UK. www.mikehall.co.uk |
