Claire Cope is a British composer and pianist who works across a multitude of genres including contemporary classical and jazz and improvised music. As a bandleader she has performed at the Manchester Jazz Festival, the London Jazz Festival and as part of the BBC Proms Plus Series. She currently leads her own contemporary jazz group ‘Ensemble C’, whose debut album in 2020 was described by Jazz in Europe as a ‘stunning debut album’, and was reviewed by a number of publications across the UK and internationally, with the Jazztrail in New York writing that the work ‘forecasts a promising future for Cope as a composer’. Claire has composed music for film, as well as for various musicians including Lucy Humphris and Rob Buckland. In 2022, Claire won a Marvin Hamlisch International Music Award for jazz composition, and was commissioned by the Apollo sax quartet to write a new piece. ‘Trapped’ was selected as a winner in the LunArt Festival Call for Scores 2024, and will receive its US premiere in Madison, Wisconsin. During the 2023-24 season, Claire was also selected as a fellow on the US based ‘Let’s Bespoken’ mentorship programme.
