Born in 1954, Roger Purcell studied clarinet between the age of 10 and 16, with his Grandfather, "Chick" Purcell, a professional clarinet and sax player from Manchester. From 1970 to 1973 he continued his studies under Leonard Foster, at the Royal Manchester College of Music and subsequently at the Royal Northern College of Music from 1973 to 1975. Roger is an experienced teacher and freelance player, who enjoys a diversity of performing, currently ranging form orchestral, choral works to theatre and Big Band. He is the author of the practice book, "The Advanced Edition, Clarinet Technique", and is presently working on a set of progressive jazz style studies for clarinet and saxophone.
