A programme of Apollo commissioned and premiered works.
The Apollo worked closely with all the composers featured on this cd, the result is a major addition to the saxophone quartet repertoire, with a carefully chosen cd running order. The drive and energy of Graham Fitkin's 'Hurl' and Michael Torke's 'July' is complemented by the ethereal 'Blue Cell' by Joby Talbot, jazz-inspired writing of Bob Mintzer, the amazing ability that Will Gregory has to take a single idea and create a gem of a piece every time he writes for saxophone quartet and the sheer artistry of Richard Rodney Bennett.
